Mary’s Story

Mary was one of my first clients after I received my Yoga Therapy certification in 2019. Mary came to yoga therapy because she was a new grandma and wanted to be able to get up from and down to the floor with more ease. Her back and hips were stiff and she had an injured shoulder. Mary and I met regularly in person until Covid moved us online. Eventually, we met less and less because Mary was feeling better and better. Mary is now a member of Homecoming and we continue to check in about once a month. Here’s the story in Mary’s words:

Sarah provided me with yoga exercises for my hips and back which made it possible for me to not only play comfortably with my grandson on the floor but allowed me to get up from the floor while holding him.  I think the best endorsement here is that a physical therapist I saw for my shoulder issue commented on how "naturally flexible" I was in my hips.  Not natural at all!  It was due to the guidance and work I did with Sarah.  After making limited progress on my shoulder injury with two different physical therapists recommended by my insurance company, I asked Sarah to incorporate shoulder work into our sessions.  Not only did the exercises Sarah provided ease the pain I had in the shoulder, they dramatically improved my range of motion.  It took time and patience but I am able to reach behind my back with that arm and utilize it fully again.

Mary doesn’t mention it here, but she has worked hard to improve her strength, flexibility and range of motion. Mary has found ways to incorporate yoga moves into her daily life and her body awareness has dramatically increased. Mary knows in her body when she has skipped too many days of practice, but she also knows that with gentle persistence, she can get back to where she wants to be. Mary describes working with me as like, “meeting with a good friend,” and I couldn’t agree more! Mary actually helped to inspire and cheer on the creation of Homecoming, my online therapeutic yoga membership, and has offered valuable feedback on the membership and yoga practices. Thank you, Mary!

Mary uses the Homecoming meditations and visualizations to help her fall asleep and the other videos when she needs some inspiration or extra guidance for her yoga practice.
