Why Yoga Therapy?

Leave Feeling BETTER Than When You Arrived*

You will be amazed at how much BETTER you feel after a 60 minute one-on-one Yoga Therapy session. Whether you arrive feeling anxious, unhappy, in pain, or exhausted, you WILL leave feeling BETTER! (*This is based on my own personal experience with Yoga Therapy as well as the clients that I have seen. If this is not the case for you, I want to hear from you!)

Yoga Therapy is Holistic

In Yoga Therapy, we aren’t diagnosing or treating a “problem.” We are working with an individual to help them experience the highest expression of health available to them in this moment. We are looking at all aspects of health: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual because it’s all connected and changes in one aspect create change in the other aspects.

Yoga Therapy Creates Lasting Change

Scientific research has proven what Easterners have known for thousands of years: Yoga changes your brain. Yoga helps to prune brain connections that are no longer serving you, (patterns of addiction, anxiety, pain, and depression,) and creates new connections around positive habits, health, and happiness.

Yoga Therapy has Been Around for Thousands of Years

While difficult to nail down an exact date for the birth of Yoga, we do know its been practiced in South Asia for thousands of years and that it was traditionally practiced one-on-one, not in group classes like we most often see in modern, Western yoga.

Yoga Therapy is Empowering

You don’t need to see a Yoga Therapist every week for the rest of your life! Yoga Therapy provides you tools that, as you incorporate them into your life, help create balance and well-being for the long-term.

Yoga Therapy Works Well With Others

Yoga Therapy is a complementary healthcare modality. Whether you are also seeing a physical therapist, mental health counselor, acupuncturist, chiropractor, are on medications for high blood pressure, anxiety or depression, or are in treatment for cancer or autoimmune disease, Yoga Therapy can work WITH other modalities to help you achieve the best results possible. I am even happy to speak with your other health care providers at your request, if you’d like.

FAQs

What goes on in a one-on-one Yoga Therapy session?

After a check-in to see how you’re feeling, we will breathe and move together, always ending with a deep rest. Each session will be tailored to your goals. Sessions may also include mudra (hand gestures,) mantra (sound), affirmations, guided relaxation, and yoga philosophy.

What should you wear or bring to a Yoga Therapy session?

No special clothes or equipment required!  Just wear something that is easy to move in. You might dress in layers so that you can add and subtract as you get warm or cool. If you have a yoga mat, you’re welcome to bring it, but I can supply everything you will need for our session.

Who should work one-on-one with a Yoga Therapist?

Anyone who would like to try a complementary therapeutic modality for lessening mental, emotional or physical suffering. I am happy to become a part of your team, working to help you create the life you want to live. Working 1 on 1 gives us the opportunity to create a practice that is uniquely yours.

How can you expect to feel after a Yoga Therapy session?

I hope you feel really great after a yoga therapy session with me! My goal is to create some space for relaxation and clarity, so that you can more easily move through life. You might experience a little muscle soreness in the days to come, depending on the shapes and movements we do and whether they are new to your body or not.

How is Yoga Therapy different from Physical Therapy or Mental Health Counseling?

One big difference is I do not diagnose, though I can work with a diagnosis if you’ve received one. My base of knowledge and tools are different than that of a PT or licensed mental health counselor. My approach is holistic, working with the physical body, the breath, and the mind and emotions to ease suffering and encourage self-compassion.  I provide tools and empower clients to find what works best for them while providing a supportive space for exploration.

How much does Yoga Therapy Cost?

My 2023 rates are: $125 for 50 minutes. There is an online session discount for current Homecoming members. Check with your health insurance company, some people are able to get reimbursed for yoga therapy session and/or are able to use their health savings account.
